Uniform Policy

The wearing of the Loreto Normanhurst uniform should reflect both the pride we have as members of the Loreto community and our own self-respect.

As representatives of our School students should always be conscious of promoting our School in a positive way.

Here are the uniform guidelines to help achieve this:

1.  The style of the winter uniform requires the length to be below the knee for the junior tunic and mid-calf for the senior skirt. The length of the summer uniform is below the knee.

2.  Since the hat has been introduced at the request of students, parents and teachers for sun protection, as well as for style to complement the uniform. It is to be worn to and from School with winter and summer uniform. It should also be worn at lunch time when outside during Terms I and 4 whether students are sitting in the sun or the shade.

3.  If the hair is shoulder length or longer it must be tied back with black, Loreto blue or white ribbons in a way which enables the hat to be worn in the correct style.  White (summer) and black (winter) headbands may be worn.

4.  Hair should be close to natural colour. Any extremes of colour or style are not permitted.

5.  As is appropriate for school uniform, the only jewellery is a wrist-watch and a small, single matching pair of silver or gold studs or sleepers. Cosmetics and nail polish are not to be worn.

6.  No student is permitted to wear multiple earrings to school.  Nose rings and tongue rings are not permitted

7.  Jumpers may not be worn without a blazer or overcoat when outside the School. In winter full uniform includes a blazer or overcoat. Blazers must be worn on all formal school occasions

8.  The school vest is available for Years 11 and 12.  It may be worn in summer or winter whilst at school and covered with the blazer outside of school.

9.  Uniform stockings are Kayser 70 denier matt opaque - Jet colour.

10. Plain white ankle socks, with turn down tops only, are worn in summer.

11. Shoes are to be low heeled black leather lace-up school shoes without decoration and to be cleaned with polish regularly.

12. Black gloves and/or a plain black scarf may be worn in winter when the weather is very cold.

13. All items of uniform must be clearly marked with the student’s name.

14. Full uniform is to be worn from home until students reach their locker area, regardless of whether students come by car, bus or train. The same applies to leaving the school in the afternoon.

15. School tracksuit is to be worn in the cooler months for Saturday sport and PE.  This can be supplemented with the School sports jersey.

16. Appropriate sports uniform must be worn for Saturday sport.

17. Only the school backpack should be used each day to transport books and belongings.  Only the official Loreto Normanhurst School’s sports bag may be used for transporting sport or other belongings to and from school.

18. A Uniform slip will be given for incorrect uniform and this will result in a detention.  Students are required to make themselves aware of the school’s uniform code and act accordingly.
