Careers
The Loreto Normanhurst mission statement emphasizes
the belief in the capacity of women to contribute significantly to
society and as such careers education at Loreto is not only a way of
helping the students to think ahead about what will be a satisfying
adult life for themselves and their families but a way of
challenging and encouraging them to use their gifts with confidence,
creativity and generosity in loving and responsible service.
Career Education aims to engage the girls in an on-going process of responsible planning and action. This process is to be nurtured in the light of the changing role of women and the structure of the family in society; the emergence of many and varied work roles; changing work patterns and life-long education and training.
The aims of Careers Education enable the students to:
- gain an awareness of their individual abilities, interests and values and the ways these are related to their career planning
- acquire a knowledge of the world of work and further education and training opportunities
- make career decisions based on self-knowledge and the range of options open to them
- acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to implement their decisions
