The English programs at Loreto Normanhurst are designed to develop a confidence in girls and a love of reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing and representing. This is done by examining a wide range of texts and their contexts and enjoying an exposure to a variety of genres.
Our courses will provide students with stimulus to develop intellectual, social and moral understandings and foster a desire for life long learning. The staff in the English faculty encourages girls to be involved in their learning through diverse classroom activities and by involving themselves in competitions in reading, writing, speaking, debating and performance.
Tasks in English are designed as indicators for all stakeholders to be informed of students developing skills, knowledge and understandings. Through texts which cover a substantial scope students develop an interpretative and enquiring style of thinking which ahs the capacity to cater for life beyond school.
In Years 11 and 12 student have a choice and can undertake the study of English at several levels; Standard, Advanced Extension 1 and Extension 2. Within Standard and Advanced courses there is a common are of study and the Extension courses offer the opportunity for in depth study and using skills of analysis and in the case of Extension 2 the opportunity to complete a major work.
