Music
The Music Department at Loreto Normanhurst is vibrant and very active. We offer Music from Year 7 through to Year 12 (with Elective Classes from Years 9-12). In the Senior years we offer both music courses – Music 2/Extension and Music 1 where we have had considerable success in our HSC results.
We offer tuition at school for Piano, Singing, Musicianship and all Orchestral and Band Instruments and we have a well developed Ensemble Program. Our ensembles are given opportunities to perform regularly at school events and events and competitions outside school. We also subscribe to the ‘Meet the Music’ Concert Series at the Opera House.
The ensembles offered at present are:
- Orchestra
- Chamber Strings
- Symphonic Wind Ensemble
- Senior Choir
- Junior Choir
- Clarinet group
- Wind Quintet
- String Quartet
and we also encourage Chamber music groups in Years 9-12 (Elective students)
Each year we have a very successful Music Festival which is held in the Town Hall. Every student is involved and it is a wonderful night. The first half of the program features both solo and ensemble items, whereas the second half is a competition between the Houses. Each House presents a song and an Adjudicator awards a Trophy to the Best Choir, The Best Accompanist and the Best Conductor. There is also a Spirit Cup which is awarded to the deserving house.
