Loreto Home

Counsellor

Mary Ward's vision was grounded in those values dear to her: freedom of spirit, sincerity in communication, personal integrity, a discriminating attitude to truth and a cheerful disposition.

The role of the School Counsellor at Loreto is to support and promote the social, emotional and spiritual growth of students.
Loreto Normanhurst has two part time counsellors who are available to talk with students about emotional, relationship, family, behavioural and mental health issues.

A range of therapeutic approaches are utilised by the School Counsellor to promote the well being of the students including cognitive-behavioural, solution focused and narrative therapy techniques.

Students can refer themselves to the School Counsellor by making an appointment in person or via email.  Alternatively, referrals can be made by parent contact or by the teaching staff.  Contact with the School Counsellor remains confidential but involvement of relevant staff at the school may be negotiated with the student and family to ensure optimum support for the student in the school community.

The option of two school counsellors offers families who have any pre-existing relationship with either school counselor socially or in the community, the option of total anonymity. The counsellor aims to avoid working with girls they have any form of association with outside the school setting.

The counsellors are available every day of the school term from 8am to 3.20pm.

The School Counsellors can be contacted on ph (02) 94737496.
