Leadership & Governance

The Loreto Normanhurst School Council

The Loreto Normanhurst School Council was inaugurated in 1992 and, as the governing body of Loreto Normanhurst, is accountable to the IBVM.  The Council is also responsible for the employment of the principal, the continuation of the school’s values and charism, and for its fiscal health and management.  The School Council is assisted in these tasks by several committees:  the Finance Committee, the Property Committee, the Development Committee and the Bursary Committee.  The principal, while not a member, attends all meetings of the School Council and its committees.

The current Chair of the School Council, Mr John Kean , was appointed in January 2009.  The Chair is the formal point of contact between the school and the Loreto sisters.  There is a network of IBVM support for both the School Councils and for the principals of each of the Loreto schools throughout Australia.

Leadership structures within the school

The Leadership Team

The Leadership Team within the school consists of nine people, some of whom are connected to the educational function of the school, and others to the school as organisation.  Although the principal has overall responsibility for every aspect of the school, the following portfolios are delegated to and managed by members of the Leadership Team:

  • student learning
  • pastoral care
  • boarding
  • information and communication technology (ICT)
  • development (capital fund-raising and community relationships)
  • administration (human resources)
  • finance and property

Members of the Leadership Team work hard, and with extraordinary commitment, to ‘weave’ a consistent fabric from the many threads and networks of school life, and connect these to the school’s overall direction for the future.

The Administration Team

The Administration Team, led by the Deputy Principal, consists of four members, which leads and manages life of the day school:

  • Deputy
  • Principal
  • Director of Students: Learning
  • Director of Students: Pastoral Care

Heads of Department & House Coordinators

Two important groups of middle managers within the school are the Heads of Department (HoDs) team and the House Coordiators/Pastoral Team, who both both play significant roles in the life of the school.
