Professional Learning
Professional learning at Loreto Normanhurst is led by the Deputy Principal and Director of Human Resources. Opportunities are available to all staff members and includes:
Individual and Department
Professional Learning Experiences
Includes a wide variety of conferences, workshops, courses and
networks off-site as well as in-house experiences.
Induction
Program for New Staff
A two-day
Induction Intensive is held in January each year. For all staff
commencing after January, the Director of Human Resources
co-ordinates and supports their ongoing induction.
Mentor
Program
Every staff
member is matched with a mentor at the commencement of their
employment.
Annual Staff
Development Days
Four Staff Days
are held during the course of the school year.
One Staff
Retreat Day is held mid-year. In addition to these days, teaching and
boarding staff undertake two faculty days in non-term time.
Staff Scholarship
Staff are
encouraged to apply for the annual staff scholarship of
$7,500 allocated for overseas study and research.
Young &
Beginning Teachers Network
This network
supports New Scheme Teachers in the accreditation process.
It also supports staff beginning their teaching career.
New Leaders
Network
This network supports staff new to leadership.
Staff Formation
These sessions
are designed to develop and strengthen staff understanding of the
Loreto ethos.
Loreto 5
Since 2000, five
teaching staff members have been given 0.2 FTE release for one year
to work on the incorporation of learning theory, information
literacy and ICT skills into their teaching practice.
Other
Professional Learning Days
The Deputy Principal and Director of Human Resources organise other professional
development experiences for specific needs of individual groups and
departments as required.
