Youth Ministry
The role of Youth Minister
is still a relatively new position at Loreto Normanhurst, beginning
in Term 4 2007 as part of the Chaplaincy program. The task is
to act as the school’s World Youth Day contact, provide a link
between the students and parish and Diocesan events, and to act in a
mentoring role for the students, assisting them to live their faith
and to connect to other young people who choose this path as well.
This role includes all of the above as well as a weekly Bible Study, care of the St Vincent de Paul group and working with the Boarders for their Sunday Masses.
The Australian Catholic Bishop’s Conference is currently working towards the creation of a National Vision for Youth Ministry. This vision seeks to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus in the world of today, to draw young people into responsible participation in the Catholic faith community and to empower and support the total spiritual growth of each individual. The Diocese of Broken Bay, of which Loreto is a part, supports this vision and seeks to realise it within our Diocese.
Loreto Normanhurst has always been a very vibrant spiritual community, with beautiful and moving liturgies, frequent Masses and Communion Services and many opportunities to live out the elements of faith through social justice, discussion and in ministering to others in the school community. The Youth Minister works within this sphere and also aims to connect the students into the wider circles of parish and Diocese as well as looking forward to WYD 2011.
