Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre (LRC) provides access to the school’s extensive resource collection, in a comfortable, air-conditioned centre and is considered the hub of our learning community at Loreto Normanhurst. The purpose-built facility includes research areas, private seminar rooms, a senior study mezzanine, which is further complemented by our 150 seat lecture theatre. The centre is designed to facilitate both collaborative and independent learning, as we acknowledge that the learning needs of our community are diverse and changeable.
The collection includes 42,000 print and audiovisual resources plus online encyclopedias and databases with subscriptions to some 16,000 digital magazines, newspapers and academic journals.. Students have access to online resources including the library catalogue which can be accessed at any time via the school portal.
The LRC is managed by the Knowledge and Learning Strategist, who works collaboratively with the Director of Learning and the teaching staff to conduct research and influence the strategic direction of learning at the school. The LRC team consists of dedicated and highly experienced LRC Student Services Assistants who work closely with classroom teachers to resource and enrich the curriculum, to integrate learning technologies, to develop innovative teaching practices and to cater for individual learning styles. The team regularly responds to curriculum themes by engaging guest speakers, lecturers, authors and also through the development of interactive installations and dynamic exhibits that are designed to enhance and reinforce student learning.
During term time the LRC is open before, during and after school including lunch and recess breaks. Extended opening hours operate Monday to Thursday evenings.
The LRC offers independent and collaborative learning spaces.
