Music, and the enjoyment and participation in creating beautiful music, has long been a wonderful tradition at Loreto Normanhurst. An extraordinary number of students participate in the many and varied musical groups from Orchestra to choirs.
Each year, at the end of Term 1, the school holds a spectacular event called the Music Festival. It is a truly remarkable event where all students perform to an audience of nearly 3,000 community members.
The first half of the concert includes performances by solo acts and music groups within the school, as well as the magnificent Boarder Choir. The second half is a Choir competition involving all Houses, which is completely student-led.
All proceeds from this amazing evening go to the school’s Bursary Fund to support students in need.
The 2020 Music Festival was reimagined as a virtual, online event on 27 June 2020.
Every Loreto Normanhurst student had the opportunity to be involved in this year’s event, and it was a wonderful expression of our community spirit as it is every year.
Hosted by our Music and Performing Arts Captains, our online event included music and dance items from Acts One and Two. The Primary, Boarder and House Choirs were performed as ‘Couch Choirs’, or virtual choirs, where each student’s recording was synchronised and combined into one single production, and the House Conductors provided an explanation about how their song choice related to the theme, ‘Standing on the Shoulders of Giants’. The announcements of Awards were made on the night, and to generate audience participation and excitement, the Best House Choir Award was replaced by the new People’s Choice Award – with the winner to be announced Week 1, Term 3!
It was an amazing, reimagined event, that is so dear to our school community, and we thank everyone who tuned in from afar to watch the magic of Loreto Normanhurst Music Festival.
