On Friday, 26 August we held our HSC Showcase. The HSC Showcase is a celebration of Year 12 and the HSC projects they have worked tirelessly on throughout the year in the subject areas of Aboriginal Studies, Dance, Design & Technology, Drama, English Extension 2, History Extension, Music, Science Extension, Textiles and Design, and Visual Arts. We had a wonderful turnout of current students and their families, future students and their families, as well as alumnae who joined to view the major works and congratulate Year 12.

The night was opened by Dr Catriona Quinn (Class of 1982), Academic & Design Historian at UNSW Sydney, where she teaches history and theory to undergraduate and postgraduate design students.

Catriona spoke about Loreto’s history and how it empowers us to analyse the world. Our foundress, Mary Ward (1585-1645), faced the uncertainty of her society with courage and the fervent conviction that "women in time to come will do much"  and Catriona outlined how this quote lives with Loreto women long after they have left school and is prevalent in everything they do. Catriona's daughter, Clementine Rocks (Class of 2013) also took the stage. Clementine talked about her own study of Design and shared how creative thinking is being applied to solve the world's big problems.

We also heard from our Creative Arts Captain, Remy, who shared with us the importance to banding together as a year group and overcoming challenges. Year 12 can be a very scary and overwhelming time, but the dedication and support our girls show towards each other and their studies, with the continual support they receive from staff, is the kind of community spirit we foster at Loreto Normanhurst.

Ms Kieryn Bateman, Director of Learning, thanked all those who had contributed to the HSC Showcase event, but especially our talented teachers who tirelessly inspire and guide our Year 12 students in the development of their HSC major works.

It was a wonderful evening of creativity and we wish the Class of 2022 all the best for the weeks and months ahead.
