Congratulations to the following students who have been selected to participate in the 2022 competition. These students will begin preparing for the competition this term. Well done to all students who participated in the three-week taster program. The number of students who applied was incredible and we are looking at other opportunities for students to participate in events like this in 2022.
A reminder that CSDA finals will recommence in Term 4. Our CSDA debaters who are in the finals have continued their coaching virtually for the past couple of weeks. This year Rose Cunningham attended the NSW UN Youth Spy Conference at the end of last term. Rose has shared with us a short reflection on her experience.
On the 18th of September, I was lucky enough to attend a virtual spy and espionage conference run by UN Youth. During the event, we were put into groups and did many activities that taught us about different spy agencies and some of the countries with the largest agencies. We did virtual games such as a memory match and spectrum debates about topics, such as whether or not the government should have access to our personal data for threat management or if countries should actually be using espionage. My favourite bit of the day was when we learned about tools used such as body cams and microphones (aka bugs), along with the virtual escape room. The discussions we had were incredibly interesting and I learnt so much about espionage that I really hope to do it again - maybe in person one day.

Nominations are now open for Term 4 for Oratory Club. This will run from Week 2 – 8 of Term 4. It will be facilitated by Ms Bernadette O’Dwyer and Oratory Coaches. Term 4 will focus specifically on debating skills. We will endeavour to organise debates for our students internally and externally where possible. Any student considering debating in 2022 is encouraged to participate in this program. The coaching sessions will target some of the skills required to excel in the competitions Loreto Normanhurst participates in.
Students who are interested should register via this form.
For further information, please contact the Oratory Department or the Oratory Coordinator.
