Mary Ward said, "If you show service to anyone, do it willingly." At Loreto Normanhurst we try to encourage our girls to help others through community service and social justice initiatives. This term a challenge was given to the Year 8 cohort to respond to the call of helping the paediatric nurses at Westmead Children’s Hospital.
The paediatric nurses were seeking positive encouragement from the community so the children in the COVID ward would be more supported while their parents were being treated elsewhere. A suggestion was made of providing a template of a balloon (designed by Kerstin Grima) that students would use to draw images with words of hope and encouragement for the children in hospital. The aim was to provide “a sea of balloons” on the hospital wall for the children to enjoy.
Due to COVID restrictions, these balloons were posted to Loreto Normanhurst so that they could be compiled and sent on to Westmead Children’s Hospital. It was pleasing to see so many girls rise to the challenge and contribute, from words of hope to pictures of animals, beautiful sunsets, Disney characters and flowers.
Well done to the girls who participated as I am sure that the children who are in Westmead Children’s Hospital appreciated your efforts.
