We celebrate student achievements in Festival of Speech, Mock Mediation, AIS NGS Super Debating and CSDA in another full week of Oratory News.

The IGSA Festival of Speech was once again an incredible highlight on the Oratory calendar for Loreto Normanhurst. Congratulations to all of our students and coaches! Well done to the following students who were selected in the top 10 of their section:

Mock Mediation results for the quarter finals are in…congratulations to the team who scored an incredible 93/100. Well done!

AIS NGS Super Virtual Debating

Well done to all of our AIS NSG Super Virtual Debating Teams who have all successfully made it through to the Quarter Finals!

The result from the knock-out round are:

  • Primary Team against Yaranelea QLD (Yaranelea unfortunately had to forfeit).
  • Year 7 and 8 LN team won against Penrith Anglican College.
  • Year 9 and 10 LN team won against Canberra Girls Grammar.

These teams will participate in their Quarter Final debates in the coming weeks. Good luck, ladies!

CSDA

Congratulations to our CSDA teams who participated in the Quarter Finals last week. Unfortunately, both teams were unsuccessful in making it through to the Semi Finals. Well done to these girls for maintaining their commitment to debating in Term 3 and continuing their training in preparation for the finals series. A particular shout out to the Year 10 B team that was made of Year 9 students! A particularly impressive result to get through to the Quarter Fnals. Students in the Quarter Finals were:

NSW Youth UN

Youth UN have released their Term 4 events. See the below summary to find out more. Students should register their interest via this form.

Event Year Group Date Description
Disability Justice Summit Years 9-12 30th November, 2021 – All Day A interactive day focusing on how shaping our global societies to recognise disability rights can make our world inclusive and accessible.
Crisis Point Years 9-11 30th October, 2021 – All Day Whole-day interactive problem-solving simulation. Students take on the role of a key diplomats and stakeholders to solve global security and humanitarian crisis.

NSW Constitutional Convention

Students in Year 11 are invited to participate in the NSW Constitutional Convention on 8 November 2021. The event will occur virtually, and students will participate from school. The guest speaker, Professor Twomey, will speak on the Constitution and our rights during times of COVID. Any Year 11 student interested in participating must complete this form by 10am, Monday, 25 October.

Oratory Club Term 4

Nominations are now open for Term 4 Oratory Club. This will run from Weeks 4 – 8 of Term 4 and will be facilitated by Ms Bernadette O’Dwyer and the oratory coaches. Term 4 will focus specifically on debating skills and students can nominate debating teams of three with their friends.

Students who are interested should register via this form.
