Sport News - 2 December

We wrap up Sport at LN for 2021, including results from our Primary and Secondary Swimming Carnivals and a report from our Sport Captain.

Sport Updates

What a year - for so many different reasons. With the ups and downs that the world in general has thrown at us, sport has definitely had its challenges. What I do know is that we are so proud of every single student at Loreto Normanhurst who has shown true grit and determination to persevere and strive for their best. Regardless of their chosen sport or physical endeavour, that true ‘Normo’ spirit always shines through.

With so many wonderful memories, here are a few of the highlights of the year:

  • The best ever results for our IGSA Representative Swim & Dive Team
  • Outstanding Rowing First VIII results at Nationals at Lake Barrington in Tasmania,
  • The first Secondary School Athletics Carnival in two years,
  • Our Junior Firsts Softball winning J01,
  • and last but not least the Secondary Swimming Carnival being held onsite this week!

We are looking forward to what 2022 holds for all of our students, and wish all families a restful break.

Primary Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday the 24th November, we were fortunate enough to hold the Primary Swimming Carnival in the Loreto Normanhurst Aquatic Centre. Even though the cheering may have been limited due to the restrictions at the time, our girls showed up in true spirit and created a carnival atmosphere. The highlight of the day was watching the Spirit Cup Cheering competition, which was replaced with a House Dance-Off!

We are excited to announce the following results from the Carnival:

  • 10s Age Champion: Annabel Taylor
  • 11s Age Champion: Anna Ward
  • 12s Age Champion: Amelia Moyes
  • 50m Invitational (Queen of the Pool): Lucinda Durston
  • Spirit Cup: Dorothea
  • Champion House: Clare

Secondary Swimming Carnival

December 1st 2021 saw - for the first time ever - four individual Swimming Carnivals combined on the same day to create this year’s Secondary Swimming Carnival! This could have removed the community and spirit due to the restrictions, but in actual fact, it turned out to be a day so many of our girls (especially our Year 11s) will never forget!

With over 850 25 metre swims in total, and over 400 50-metre swimmer, it was an event that saw participation numbers at an all-time high and an atmosphere that is unparalleled.

Please congratulate all the below winners:

  • 12s Champion: Chloe Winterton (Year 7)
  • 13s Champion: Isabella Hunt (Year 7)
  • 14s Champion: Charlotte Wilson (Year 8)
  • 15s Champion: Cordelia Stephen (Year 10)
  • 16s Champion: Tilly King (Year 11)
  • 17s Champion: Meghan Andren (Year 11)
  • Junior Champion: Charlotte Wilson (Year 8)
  • Intermediate Champion: Cordelia Stephen (Year 10)
  • Senior Champion: Meghan Andren (Year 11)

Spirit Cup: You'll have to wait and see!

Champion House: Ward

Sport Captain Report

I am Sophie Kavanagh (Year 11), the School Sports Captain for 2021/2022.

After a long year, it was great to be able to finish with some intra-school sport on Saturdays and the Secondary Swimming Carnival on Wednesday.

Even though the last round of intra-school sport was mostly washed out, the program on offer to the students created a positive atmosphere and allowed students to get back on the sporting field or in the pool with their friends.

I hope everyone enjoyed the Swimming Carnival and got involved in either the competition or House races. I sure did, and think it was a great day full of community and House spirit.

Have a great Christmas and New Year and I wish everyone all the best for the holidays.

Sophie Kavanagh (Year 11)
