The program will be available on the night.
The event will be catered by our Hospitality students throughout the evening.

Parking: Due to the recent weather, the Oval will not open for parking. The Oval car park will provide limited parking; please do not park in spaces with cones. Parents will be unable to access the Oval car park until 4pm. Additional parking can be accessed on Mount Pleasant Avenue beyond the Teresa Ball Primary Centre on the grass verge alongside the Oval. Cars in this area should be parking front in first. Please avoid parking on Osborn Road, Currawong Avenue, and surrounding streets and please be mindful of our neighbours and do not park across or impede access to driveways.
It has been a year since the Taliban swept into the Afghan capital of Kabul, and it is essential that we as a community continue to support those displaced by conflict and violence. Many families and individuals, whilst successful in leaving Afghanistan, continue to face challenges settling into life in Australia, with many unable to access much needed support. As Maria Clara Martin, UNHCR Representative, reminds us, “we can no longer look away as people perish on our doorstep. We have a moral responsibility to protect human life and dignity”.
Therefore, from Monday 22 August - Monday 19 September, Loreto Normanhurst will be running a food drive to support the Jesuit Refugee Service. The JRS Foodbank deliver food and supplies to over 150 families each week and are currently struggling to meet the demand as donations are at an all time low.
Your daughter is encouraged to bring in donations of the following items:
Year 5 | Vegetable oil |
Year 6 | Dried lentils and dried chickpeas |
Year 7 | Coffee and tea |
Year 8 | Long-life milk (1L) |
Year 9 | Basmati rice (1kg bags) |
Year 10 | Coconut milk (small tins) |
Year 11 | Cans of tuna in oil |
Year 12 | Salt and sugar (500g bags/containers) |
All Year Groups | Dontations of any of the following items are also greatly appreciated:
|
Items can be dropped off to any of the following locations at Loreto Normanhurst:
Please feel free to contact Mrs Jacinta Wells, Social Justice Co-ordinator, at jwells@loretonh.nsw.edu.au if you would like further information on how you can support the JRS.
Friday, 26 August
On Friday, 26 August students are welcome to wear a purple ribbon in their hair to promote advocacy and develop a sense of belonging for all individuals in our community. This is an optional activity and students are encouraged to provide their own ribbon. The ribbon will need to be removed for the Leadership Ritual after lunch.
On Wednesday, 17 August all Year 12 students were invited to a study skills session run by Dr. Prue Salter titled “The Year 12 Countdown: Moving towards achieving your personal best in a stress-free way for your last weeks of school”.
It was an engaging and practical session that provided students with some concrete ways to manage and organise their study time in the lead up to their HSC examinations. Dr. Salter asked students to physically create their own individualised study timetable while in the session with some tailored guidance which the students found to be an incredibly valuable exercise.
Her top tips for what Year 12 students should be doing now in regards to their study in preparation for exams include:
Initial feedback from students was very positive and we encourage you to touch base with your daughters about what they took away from the presentation. Dr. Salter has also kindly agreed to share her slides from the presentation and these have been sent through to the school and shared with the Year 12 students.

THEY WON! Congratulations team; what an incredible result. It was incredibly close debate and our team was well matched against Pius X A team. The topic for the night was “That patriotism ultimately hurts the society that it supports” and in particular this topic was a fitting way for the team to round out their High School Debates as Loreto Normanhurst Debaters. They spoke with considered insight, with conviction and with their personalities shining through each word spoken. These girls have worked hard and they deserve this incredible win. Thank you to Ms Katherine Morris (Class of '18) who has coached the team this year.
