This fortnight saw the exciting launch of a new project and exhibition in the Primary school; the Year 5 Animal Fair!
This aligned with the Term 4 topics of information reports as a text type in English and animal adaptations in science. Students chose an animal with a specific behavioural, structural or physiological adaptation that helps it survive in the wild.
They presented their learning through creating a small diorama showing an animal in its natural habitat, and their report through a poster or Google Slides presentation. Teachers were thoroughly impressed with the level of intricate detail in dioramas and the high levels of knowledge conveyed through presentations.
Year 5 have spent several Tuesdays this term engaging with Anne Muirhead, Acting Chaplain of Loreto Normanhurst, for an exciting new project- ‘The Primary Prayer Book’.
Anne has kindly shared her extensive knowledge and skills and broadened students’ understanding of the significance of personal and private prayer.
In small groups, students were tasked with a specific event in the Primary school calendar and worked collaboratively to write a prayer or special blessing. Events included the start of the school year, welcoming new students, Book Week, sports carnivals and birthdays.
These prayers will be collated and printed into a special book to be used throughout the Primary school to enhance the spiritual life of the school.
We thank Anne for providing students with such a rich learning experience and we look forward to using the book throughout the 2023 school year and beyond!
On Thursday, 17 November, we held the Primary Swimming Carnival at the Loreto Normanhurst Aquatic Centre. It was a day that will live long in the memory of all involved with the intense participation, enthusiasm and spirit shown throughout the day.
A full results summary will be presented at lines on Monday next week!
Congratulations to our Primary teams who have had two debates against Pymble Ladies College the last two weeks. The girls did an exceptional job with both teams winning one debate each.
