Beyond the Classroom - Primary

Extra-Curricular Activities

Primary School students are encouraged to take part in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities at Loreto Normanhurst, which can be continued into Secondary School. All extra-curricular activities promote skill development, leadership, grit, perseverance, teamwork, confidence and a sense of fun and camaraderie.

The full range of activities varies from term to term and year to year, but the major activity areas for Primary students are Sport, Speech & Drama, Music and Lunchtime Clubs. For a list of offerings available to Primary and Secondary students, please download the Extra-curricular brochure.

In addition to these activities, all Primary students engage with specialist Music, Visual Arts, Language, Library and Physical Education teachers during allocated class lessons.

Social Justice & Community Service

Loreto Normanhurst focuses on justice as a core value of our tradition and spirituality. Following in the footsteps of our foundress, Mary Ward, we encourage our students to be outwardly focused and empathetic, to recognise injustice and to make an authentic difference in the lives of others.

Students are involved in fundraising, volunteering and other types of community service throughout their schooling journey. The Frangipani Fair, contribution to the HOPE project for young mothers and babies, and involvement in Secondary School initiatives such as Loreto Day and the Justice Fete are examples of the meaningful, real-world, community-based projects in which our Primary students actively participate.

Students in Year 5 and 6 and their families are also encouraged to complete five hours of Community Service together each year, outside of Loreto Normanhurst.
