At Loreto Normanhurst, there is a strong belief in the capacity and responsibility of our young women to contribute significantly to society. This belief underlies the Community Service programme for Years 10 and 11 students. The community service program is introduced to the students in Year 9 with their first experience being on the Far North Queensland Experience.
Building on these experiences, each student in Year 10, and again in Year 11, will participate in the Loreto Normanhurst Community Service Programme and is asked to complete a minimum of 20 hours of volunteer work for the benefit of others. This work must be unpaid and the hours will be undertaken in the student’s own time. The emphasis of Community Service is on personal interaction and service.
Students may choose to volunteer in aged care, respite care for people with disabilities, special education, environmental groups or other community based volunteer work. All Community Service placements must be verified by the school prior to commencement. Students will be required to find their own placements, however, assistance and suggestions will be available if required.
