Music Festival 2023 – the countdown is on!
There is a definite buzz in the air with the countdown to the Music Festival next Friday, 24 March. Please look out for final logistic reminders from the Head of Teresa Ball next week. Additionally, please note the following.
Loreto Normanhurst Merchandise
Available to purchase on the evening will be new Loreto Normanhurst branded items such as keep cups, reusable cutlery sets and drink bottles. PAL merchandise will also be on display and available to purchase, including the ‘Our Open Table’ Cookbook. Please visit the Community Engagement Team in the theatre foyer to purchase items. All purchases will receive the limited edition 50 Years of Music Festival badge free of charge, until stocks last!
Bursary Program
For many years, Music Festival has been a bursary event. If you didn’t make a donation to the Bursary Program when you booked your Music Festival tickets, but would still like to do so, please click here . Thanks to the generosity of our community, we have been able to provide the life-changing gift of a Loreto Normanhurst education to 62 students in the past 23 years. In recent years, many of our families have been impacted by drought, fires, the Covid-19 pandemic and floods. The Bursary Program exists to help families in these difficult situations. Thank you for your thoughtful gift.
Uniform Shop Closure – Tuesday 28 March to Wednesday 26 AprilSenika Wilkinson | Uniform Shop Manager
Please be advised that the Uniform Shop will be closed from Tuesday, 28 March to Wednesday, 26 April due to the relocation of the Uniform Shop. If you require Winter uniform items, please purchase prior to Monday, 27 March to allow ample time for collection and exchanges.
During the closure dates, online ordering is available via www.flexischools.com.au for winter uniform items only (winter tunic, senior skirt, senior vest, blouse, tie and tights). Primary students can collect their Flexischool orders from the Primary School and Secondary Students from the current Uniform Shop. There will be no instore purchasing during this time. If assistance is required when purchasing your Winter uniform items, our very helpful Uniform Shop staff are happy to assist you by email at uniformshop@loretonh.nsw.edu.au or over the phone on 02 9473 7391 .
We look forward to the reopening of the Uniform Shop in the new space at 6 Mount Pleasant Avenue on Wednesday, 26 April.
A call to Stewardship through Justice Seminar Series
Unfortunately we have needed to cancel our upcoming seminar, Weaving through the wilderness: The path to accepting mental health.
We can confirm that the rest of the 'A call to Stewardship through Justice' Seminar Series will go ahead from Term 2 and we hope you will be able to attend.
Please save the following dates for exciting storytelling and discussions to come later in the year.
Seminar 2: Wednesday, 24 May, 6:00 pm -7:00pm
Refugees and Justice- focusing from a Catholic perspective the theology, a refugee themselves and then advocacy for refugees.
Seminar 3: Wednesday, 30 August, 6:00 pm -7:30pm
A focus on LGBTQI people and justice and the perspective of ‘just love’ through creation and human dignity.
Seminar 4: Wednesday, 1 November, 6:00 pm -7:30pm
Mary Ward Justice Forum- to be focused around looking in our own backyard and the vulnerability of women and children, and the need for increased rights for all. (as discussed by Sister Libby).

Open Day
Open day was overall a fun and enjoyable day for all of us in the Primary School. We all got to meet other people while doing our assigned tasks/jobs. There were many activities like colouring bookmarks, writing stories, playing fun math games and other interesting stations that the children loved. In the morning, visitors listened to the Primary Voices and Concert Band perform their gig, they sounded amazing! A special highlight to me was meeting new families and giving them tours of our Primary School, I could show them our learning spaces and tell them about all the different activities you can do while in primary.

As you all know we had our annual Loreto Normanhurst Open Day on the weekend before last. Open Day is a fun celebration which brings together the whole of our wonderful school (from Year 5 – 12) to entertain new students who are ready to decide if Loreto will be their new school family. On this day in Primary we were assigned important jobs for different times of the day. I was assigned to do tours around the Primary School for new families. I found taking the young kids on tours around the school to be an eye-opening experience and seeing the girls and adults discover what this big school community is like was an overjoyed feeling which overpowered any nervousness surrounding me! The new students had lots of fun activities on offer, including:
playing games on the courts
making bookmarks
solving tricky math problems
string geometry
listening to our amazing concert band
And I've saved my favourite for the last… our Primary Voices concert! The Primary choir performed our Music Festival song, Keep the Beat, the Primary Musical Festival song, Sky Full of Stars and a new song learned over the week before, Rise Up. Open Day was so much fun!

The Loreto Normanhurst Open Day was an extremely fun experience for everyone. There were many interesting activities and stalls to explore, including a cute golden train ride that was going around the school. There was also a Bake Sale and many of the classrooms were open to the public to showcase student work and for families to participate in a range of activities. Primary girls were assigned to a range of activities to help out on the day. We were conducting tours around the Primary School, supervising activities like multiplication races in the Year 6 classrooms, and running fun sporting activities out on the courts for the younger kids to enjoy. Mrs Board and Ms Ugonotti presented multiple speeches about Loreto Normanhurst and the wonderful opportunities available at our school. Overall Open Day was an exhilarating day and there was so much everyone could do.

Being Brave
Being Brave is a live show by Brainstorm Productions that gives students positive strategies to cope with emotions and adapt to change at school, at home and online. This live theatre in education program uses song, dance and storytelling to provide students with positive coping strategies.
In Week 6 on Wednesday, everyone in the Primary School was escorted from their lines into the Learning Common. When Primary were all seated, the show began. The show was about a young boy called Fly, whose parents recently got divorced. He and his father had raised two birds that were now getting sick because of the small cage. Lots of people told him to release the birds, but he didn’t want to because they reminded him of his father. Later on, Fly listened to the radio and found out that he could win $500 if he found the bravest person in Australia and told them what made them brave. Fly couldn’t find someone that was brave, but on the way to finding someone he helped lots of people to become brave. Our favourite part was when Fly helped the grandma to FaceTime her grandson Carlo and she did TikTok dances. We learnt that everyone can be brave and that sometimes you have to let go of things that you love. We found the show really informative and entertaining.

Cross Country Reflection
Lucinda Walter, Melanie Moorcroft, Kristina Frangi and Alannah Mouawad | House Leaders
Thursday last week all Primary students participated in the Cross Country Carnival. We all enjoyed a fun-filled day of cheering and racing. Primary students had the option to choose between a full cross country course, or a ‘fun run’ lap of the oval. We were so impressed by the number of students who chose to do the full course, even those who do not have a lot of experience running cross country.
During the races it was empowering to see all the girls cheering their peers to the finish line. It was great to see everyone participating in the races and persisting through them, even when it got hard. On behalf of all the House Leaders and teachers we are so grateful that you made it such an exciting and amazing day.
Cross Country Results

CIS Primary Football Trials
Congratulations to Sandy Hebblewhite (Year 5), Megan Smith (Year 5) and Chloe Granelli (Year 6) who attended the CIS Primary Football Trials earlier this week. All three girls displayed great football skills throughout the day.
IPSHA Netball Trials
Congratulations to Aarya Adhikari (Year 5), Mia Hill (Year 5), Sarah Kneeshaw (Year 6) and Kate Dean (Year 6) who trialed for the IPSHA Netball Team this week. The talent on display was excellent and the girls gave it their best effort.
