Our Master Plan

For more than 120 years, Loreto Normanhurst has been part of the Hornsby Shire community with a 400-year mission to educate, encourage and inspire young women.

Loreto Normanhurst has been developing a Master Plan to guide the planning of the campus over the next 30 years. The School is planning for a 30-year period because there is a growing need for excellent schools in Sydney’s north.

The school’s growth is planned over four stages delivered across the 30 years. The overall proposal aims to increase the student capacity incrementally by 850 students by the year 2047.

The Master Plan will unfold with the gradual redevelopment or replacement of current buildings to create an innovative, unified, sustainable and ecologically sensitive campus.

State Significant Development Plan Approval

With the approval of our State Significant Development Application for the 30-year concept plan and Stage One development, the School commenced with some preparatory building works in December 2021.

With these building works now complete, the School is now in a position to prepare for our first major building project of our Master Plan: the construction of a new Boarding School.

We have spent significant resources planning for this application to ensure that the development will support the future growth of the School and our leadership of innovation in girls’ education in a way that is in line with our commitment to community, sustainability and preservation of the natural environment. We are pleased that this commitment was acknowledged in assessment of the application.

Stage One

Since launching the Master Plan, we have been making steady progress with the preparatory works:

  1. The Mary Ward Wing has been refurbished and is now a bright new space for learning and collaborating.
  2. The St Michael’s Tennis Courts and underground staff carpark are complete and in full use.
  3. The transition to the new pick up and drop off areas and the Link Road has gone very smoothly.
  4. Our beloved Heritage Gates have been refurbished back to their original beauty.
  5. In preparation for the new Boarding School, the Loreto Community House has been demolished.
  6. The new Agricultural Technologies Facility was completed in Term 3 2023.

In 2024 we will continue with this progress with a focus on a range of key projects:

  1. Upgrade of the School Oval
  2. Construction of the new Boarding School

Boarding School

With the approval of our State Significant Development Application for the 30-year concept plan and Stage One development, the School commenced with some preparatory building works in December 2021.

With these building works now complete, the School is now in a position to prepare for our first major building project of our Master Plan: the construction of a new Boarding School.

We have spent significant resources planning for this application to ensure that the development will support the future growth of the School and our leadership of innovation in girls’ education in a way that is in line with our commitment to community, sustainability and preservation of the natural environment. We are pleased that this commitment was acknowledged in assessment of the application.

Stage One

The vision for our new Boarding School is a lively home away from home containing a variety of spaces that set the stage for the rhythms of boarding life.

Its expansion will enrich the friendships, opportunities and experiences available to students and all members of our community. The new building will feature common gathering spaces for social and recreational use, communal areas for boarding families, updated accommodation for boarding staff and improved accessibility for students with specific access needs.

While we complete the preparatory building works, we are working to secure funding approval for the Boarding School and anticipate the build will take 18 months from that point.

Community Consultative Committee

In line with standard practice for State Significant projects in NSW, a Community Consultative Committee was established. This committee serves as a forum for dialogue and information-sharing regarding the Master Plan and associated works.

A mix of people who live locally, and/or are members of stakeholder groups (such as community, environmental, Aboriginal or industry groups) who have an interest in the project, have joined the new Loreto Normanhurst Master Plan Community Consultative Committee (CCC).

CCC meetings are held quarterly, and the minutes of each meeting are published once finalised by the Independent Chairperson:
