30-Year Master Plan

Loreto Normanhurst has been developing a Master Plan to guide the planning of the campus over the next 30 years. The School is planning for a 30-year period because there is a growing need for excellent schools in Sydney’s north.

By updating our spaces and surroundings, and developing flexible, progressive learning spaces, our Master Plan helps us build our community and foster the curiosity, creativity, joy and sense of belonging that ultimately propel our students into their futures as ‘seekers of truth and instruments of justice.’

Our State Significant Development Application for the 30-year concept plan and Stage One development was approved in 2021.

A range of projects designed to improve traffic flow in and around the school, improving safety and alleviating delays commenced in the December 2021 school holidays.

Early in 2023 we appointed a partner for Early Contractor involvement and based on this process, Loreto Normanhurst has decided to make some adjustments to the project to ensure its sustainability and successful execution.

To support this, we have submitted a State Significant Development Application (SSDA) Modification to seek additional approval from DPE for the updated project.

What has changed:

• The building footprint has reduced in size from 4,900 sqm to 3,750 sqm of ground floor area.
• Car parking will now be located at ground level, near the reception and across the campus (instead of the originally proposed basement parking).
• Other internal reconfiguration including staff accommodation, internal uses, and access.

What has remained:

• 216 student beds, across a mix of dorm rooms, twin rooms, and single rooms are included in the proposed Modification.

Stage One preparatory works began in the December 2021 school holidays.

If the SSDA Modification is approved in line with expectations, construction of the Boarding School will begin early 2024.

We anticipate construction of the Boarding School will take 18 months and is on track for completion in 2025.

We have spent significant resources planning for this application to ensure that the development will support the future growth of the School and our leadership of innovation in girls’ education, in a way that is in line with our commitment to community, sustainability and preservation of the natural environment. We are pleased that this commitment was acknowledged in assessment of the application.

Environmental impacts have been avoided and mitigated where possible; and impacts on surrounding land uses have been minimised.
