Empowering Girls through Education and Celebration at Loreto Normanhurst

At Loreto Normanhurst, we are deeply committed to the transformative power of girls’ education. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we reflect on the significant impact that empowering young women can have on their futures and the world. This year, our celebration is intertwined with Supergirl Week, a time to come together as a community, supporting and uplifting one another while embracing the strength and unity that define us as women.
The Power of All-Girls Education
A single-sex education offers a unique environment where girls can truly thrive. At Loreto Normanhurst, we understand the benefits of an all-girls school, where every student has the freedom to be herself. In a girls’ school, students feel comfortable expressing themselves, developing confidence, and forming deep, supportive friendships. In fact, 88% of girls’ school students report feeling comfortable being themselves at school, something that provides a solid foundation for academic success and personal growth.
Academically, our students are encouraged to achieve their best. Our culture of academic excellence ensures that each girl is challenged to reach her full potential. Over 80% of Loreto Normanhurst graduates consider their academic performance highly successful, thanks to the tailored teaching strategies that create a learning environment where girls can thrive. We are particularly proud of our focus on STEM, where our graduates are six times more likely to consider STEM majors compared to their co-ed peers.
Leadership, Confidence, and Ambition
One of the greatest gifts an all-girls education offers is the opportunity for girls to step into leadership roles. Whether through sports, student government, or community initiatives, our students develop skills that equip them to lead with confidence and resilience. 93% of our alumnae say they had more leadership opportunities than their coed peers, and we continue to nurture these skills throughout their time at Loreto Normanhurst.
Our students also report high levels of self-confidence, with 77% of them feeling confident in their abilities and accomplishments. This confidence extends beyond the classroom, as many students develop strong career aspirations, with a majority expecting to pursue graduate or professional degrees.
Celebrating Strength and Unity: Supergirl Week
As Supergirl Week kicks off, we embrace these values of empowerment and unity, while celebrating what it means to be a girl. This week is an opportunity for our community to come together, reflect on our collective strength, and support the incredible women and girls around us. It began with a creative and meaningful activity, as students made friendship bracelets to symbolize the bonds that unite us. Today, our celebration continued with an energising music and dance event, bringing our students together in a display of joy, confidence, and fun.
Through these activities, we encourage one another to embrace the positive impact we have on the world. At Loreto Normanhurst, we believe that when girls are supported and empowered, they can achieve incredible things—both individually and as part of a community.
As we continue celebrating International Women’s Day and Supergirl Week, we are reminded of the immense potential of every girl at Loreto Normanhurst, and the vital role of single-sex education in unlocking that potential. Together, we are building a future where our students can flourish, lead, and change the world.
