Year 10 Students Engage with Buildcorp Team in Insightful Construction Industry Incursion

Year 10 students from the top two Mathematics classes at Loreto Normanhurst recently had the unique opportunity to participate in a dynamic round table incursion with the Buildcorp team, gaining valuable insight into the construction industry and its connection to STEM careers.
The session began with an update from Buildcorp on the progress of the Boarding School construction project currently underway on campus. This set the stage for an interactive morning of discussions where students were divided into small groups to engage directly with Buildcorp professionals.
Representatives from across the business joined the round tables, including site managers, project engineers, and the Chief Operating Officer. Each group was facilitated by a Buildcorp team member from a different area of the business, allowing students to rotate through the tables and speak with a broad range of professionals.
A standout feature of the incursion was the strong presence of women in diverse roles within the company. This provided an inspiring example of the increasing opportunities for women in STEM and leadership positions within the traditionally male-dominated construction industry. Students were encouraged to ask about career paths, day-to-day responsibilities, and the challenges and rewards of working in construction.
The discussions offered students a practical understanding of how skills developed in mathematics and science are applied in real-world contexts, as well as insight into the wide variety of careers available in the construction sector.
Loreto Normanhurst thanks Buildcorp for their generosity in sharing their expertise and supporting our students’ professional growth. This incursion not only enriched students’ knowledge but also highlighted the importance of diversity and innovation in STEM industries.
