Our Year 6 students joined with their peers from St Ignatius’ College, Riverview, this term for the Solar Buddies excursion — a day centred on collaboration, community, and meaningful action. Together, the students put their values into practice through activities that highlighted social justice, teamwork, and shared reflection.

Working side by side, Loreto and Riverview students constructed solar lights that will be sent to communities around the world without access to electricity. This hands-on activity not only highlighted the importance of social justice but also encouraged teamwork and connection between the two schools.

The students then took part in an “Amazing Race” challenge, completing a series of problem-solving activities in mixed groups. This fun and energetic experience strengthened teamwork, communication, and leadership, as students encouraged and supported one another to complete each task.

The day concluded with reflection and prayer, giving students the opportunity to acknowledge the impact of their efforts and the importance of light in people’s lives. The excursion was filled with focus, energy, and collaboration, reflecting the students’ commitment to working together and making a difference.

The Solar Buddies excursion is a valuable opportunity for our students to live out the Loreto value of Justice, develop as global citizens, and understand how their actions can make a positive difference in the wider world.
