On Tuesday, Loreto Normanhurst students stepped up with creativity and compassion as they took part in the annual Write a Book in a Day challenge in support of The Kids’ Cancer Project.

Working in teams, students had just eight hours to plan, write, and illustrate an original storybook, an intense and rewarding creative challenge that required focus, collaboration, and heart. The books will be donated to children undergoing cancer treatment in hospitals around the country.

This initiative is about much more than storytelling. It brings the FACE Curriculum to life by fostering Faith, Academic excellence, Community, and Extra-curricular engagement. As students brainstormed, drafted, illustrated and edited under time pressure, they demonstrated empathy, resilience, and teamwork all while contributing to meaningful real-world impact.

Since Loreto Normanhurst began participating in the challenge in 2016, students have raised an incredible $34,747.44 for The Kids’ Cancer Project, directly supporting vital childhood cancer research.

This is learning with purpose and a powerful reminder of what young people can achieve when they lead with compassion.
