Benefits of Year 7 Boarding at Loreto Normanhurst

Starting boarding in Year 7 gives your daughter an excellent foundation for her Loreto Normanhurst journey. Early boarding helps students develop strong routines, independence, and confidence while fully immersing them in the rich academic and extra-curricular life of the school.
Our award-winning Student Growth Model supports each girl’s individual growth across faith, academics, community, and extra-curricular activities. With a focus on holistic development, Year 7 boarders are encouraged to flourish in every aspect of school life.
Wellbeing and safety are priorities at Loreto Normanhurst. Our strong Pastoral Care program includes a House system, advisors, and tutors who get to know each student personally. Secure facilities, a dedicated Health Centre, and reliable transport to sports and recreational activities ensure boarders are well cared for, giving families peace of mind.
We offer flexible boarding options to suit country, city, and international students, with boarding available during the week and opportunities to spend weekends with family or friends. Each term, the boarding community comes together for a special weekend focused on strengthening friendships and connection. Weekend activities and excursions also allow students to explore Sydney and enjoy new experiences.
Our new purpose-built boarding house, opening in 2026, will provide modern, sustainable accommodation for 216 boarders. The facility will include shared dorms, twin-share and single rooms, plus communal spaces for study, relaxation, and socialising, all set in a natural environment overlooking the oval and bushland.
Boarding life offers many opportunities beyond the classroom. Students develop independence and life skills through participation in Saturday sports, extra-curricular programs, and leadership roles. Shared facilities with day students foster friendships across the school, while community service initiatives build a strong sense of responsibility.
As Sydney’s largest girls’ boarding school, Loreto Normanhurst provides a learning environment tailored specifically for girls. Research shows single-sex settings support academic achievement and leadership development, and our teaching model prioritises personalised support to help every student thrive.
“The best thing about boarding is always being with your friends… they make you feel like you’re at home,” says Eliza, a Year 12 boarder.
Boarders become part of a vibrant, welcoming community made up of girls from diverse backgrounds — country, city, international, and expat families. They join a proud legacy of Loreto girls connected to more than 150 schools worldwide, forming lifelong friendships and networks.
In our 2024 survey of Year 12 families, 98% were satisfied with the quality of boarding, and 97% said their expectations were met or exceeded. We also exceeded the national average for academic care, wellbeing, and community engagement, reflecting our commitment to excellence.
Our extensive grounds include over 25 acres of green space, an oval, aquatic centre, gymnasium, tennis courts, and flexible learning spaces designed for collaboration and creativity. These facilities provide boarders with ample opportunities to pursue their passions and hobbies.
